About Novak Studios

Novak Studios is a private conservation practice in New York City dedicated to modern and contemporary works on paper. The studio provides conservation treatment, condition reports, collection assessments, and preventive-care guidance for private collectors, galleries, auction houses, artist foundations, and institutions.

The studio’s focus is deliberate. Paper is a structurally active support, responsive to humidity, light, atmospheric pollutants, and the materials that touch or support it over time. Modern and contemporary works can add synthetic media, unstable colorants, coated papers, and other materials requiring individual consideration.

Novak Studios works with drawings, watercolors, prints, and mixed-media works on paper. Each inquiry begins with the work, its condition, its material history, and the decision that needs support.

Assistant Conservator

Stephanie Prussin

Stephanie Prussin is Assistant Conservator at Novak Studios, where she supports treatment, documentation, and the handling and movement of works between the studio, auction houses, and clients. She is also collections manager for the photographer Lee Friedlander.

She holds an MFA in Visual Art from Columbia University and a BA in Art, with a minor in Art History, from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her own work as an artist centers on analogue photographic processes.
